Chapter 394 is the Florida Mental Health Act, also known as "The Baker Act”. It provides for the voluntary or involuntary assessment, stabilization, and treatment of a person in a mental health crisis. This course highlights some of the significant changes to the Baker Act, definitions, patient rights, clinical records, confidentiality, voluntary admissions, involuntary admissions and information on the 2024 Baker Act Reference Guide.
Course Objectives:
- Participants will understand the legislative intent behind the Baker Act, and learn about recent changes to the law.
- Participants will demonstrate knowledge of Chapter 394 Definitions.
- Participants will be versed on Client Rights, Records and Confidentiality.
- Participants will be able to differentiate between Voluntary and Non-Voluntary admissions.
- Participants will be able to differentiate between Involuntary Inpatient Placement and Involuntary Outpatient Services
- Participants will be introduced to the 2024 Baker Act Reference Guide and important acronyms
